Sunrise Session 5 - Fire Safety Act: Changing the Landscape
Fire Commissioner Gordon Anderson, CFO, MIFireE
Gordon Anderson was appointed as BC's Fire Commissioner in April 2014 after joining the office as Assistant Deputy Commissioner in September 2013. Prior to this he had 13 years of service with volunteer fire departments and served in a career fire department for 23 years. During this time he served as the Chief Training Officer and municipal Deputy Emergency Coordinator, retiring in late 2012 after 6 1/2 years as Deputy Fire Chief. Along with professional designations with the Institution of Fire Engineers and as a Chief Fire Officer, he holds a Bachelor Degree from the University of Victoria and is completing a second degree in Public Safety Administration. Gordon is member of; the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada Advisory Council, Canadian Tri-Services Emergency Management Committee, the governing board of the Canadian Public Safety Operations Organization (CANOPS) and serves as Vice President of the Council of Canadian Fire Marshals/Fire Commissioners.
The presentation will review the new Fire Safety Act and how it will impact the fire service. It will discuss the new provisions that will enhance compliance and enforcement, as well as the new training standards for fire inspectors and investigators. The session will also review the role of OFC staff in supporting fire departments moving forward.
